Clowns Hosting

Will my orc. clowns host in any different corals besides anemones? I was hoping they could be hosted in a soft coral until I am ready to keep an anemone. I already have the two clowns and they seem happy. I would like it if they were able to have a home base in my tank. As of now these are the only two fish in my tank. I also believe that they were tank bread.

Clownfish don't require host anemones to survive. Tank raised clowns may choose a variety of items other than nems to host in or around, such as coral or power heads, or they may never host in anything, including anemones. It varies from fish to fish.

Has anybody ever had a clown host in a soft coral like xenia or gsp?

I've had my ocellaris clowns host GSP, a long-polyped Toadstool, and hairy mushrooms.

Did you do anything special or did they just do it on their own?

Did this hurt the gsp at all?

no i wouldent think so i have a friend that has a pair of paccaso stay in a gsp ove a rbta

That's right, the gsp was completely unaffected. The toadstool would sometimes retract it's polyps which would really confuse the fish. But the gsp didn't mind at all.

I have had clowns host on Everything ...Satr polyps, Devils hand Leather, Mushrooms, Hammers...I had one clown that would host on anythng and everything , I wanted to put a sock in there and see if he would host that...And then I have 2 clowns that have been with me for around 3 years in tanks with all of that same stuff and Anems and won't host a thing..

Just be patient they will host when they want...
