clowns stirring the sand....

I have a pair of maroon clowns. I am new to clowns.... they are in a new tank that has some finer sand in it than my other tanks. The water is not clearing up in the tank as much as I would be expecting. Is it normal for them to be stirring on the sand so much that there is always some sand and such stirred into the water?

I don't think it was an accident that clownfish are called clowns.. I've heard of clowns doing some very strange things. For som reason the sand sifting rings a bell.

My clowns recently decided they don't like my candy cane coral to be inflated. If I sit and watch them for morethan 10 minutes they'll stick they're mouthes up to the center of each candy cane head and swim up against them until they shrink up. After that they move on back to they're normal spot under the hammer coral. The heads have actually split since I noticed this behavior so they don't seem to be hurting anything.

As for you clowns problem I don't really have any suggestions to get them stop. Only thing I can think of is hit them on the nose w/ the newspaer or something...

Yep, eventually the fine stuff disappears. They can be a pain.

both mine do the sandbed shimmy. I have been worried about the cloudiness of the water but if these guys causing this much havoc is normal I dont know how the fine particals would ever get back to normal. They seem happy so I wont worry about it.

I wonder why they do that? I have a single Ocellaris who does the "sandbed shimmy" as well. Strange behaviour to say the least. It's like he's throwing a tantrum or somthing.

You know...its similar to my cat that will dig in the litter box for 20 minutes to cover the poo. Its like the clowns did their business and are trying to cover the mess!!!! :D
