Club Meetings

Isn't it time to get this club up and running again?

A lot of people put in some decent work to get it started, it's a shame to see it sitting idle.

I know that there are a lot of new people out there.

I'm a little far away most of the time to be able to head it up, buy let's put our heads together and see what we can do.

I know occasionally we get a few Red Bluff and Redding folks here at Chico mtgs. It really helps to have good leadership, forward momentum, and a stong core group. People come and go in the hobby and so does interest in the club.

It's not easy and a lot of drama can come about but once that is taken care of, things can run pretty smooth.

Exactly. Clubs are empowered by the volunteers and support they get from membership. People tend to come and go in the hobby as well as their interest and motivation to help 'the club' out. One thing to keep in mind that the enourmous amount of time it takes to maintain a reef tank is above and beyond that which you spend dedicated to 'the club'. Nonetheless, I believe clubs can survive even with the ebb and flow of interest in the hobby. But with economic times like this, certainly things like reef clubs that do not do much to pay bills or put food on the table, take a far back seat.

It's all a matter of getting the right people involved, IMHO!

I'm not looking to stir up a wasp nest. Stores aside, if we can generate local intrest, I would like to see the club moving forward again. So at this time I would like to propose a meeting date of Friday November 6th. I will be in Redding on this date and would be able to help out. Between now and then we can work out a location and time. I'm sure Aquarium Plus or The Deep would be willing to host us. If this is acceptable, I will contact them.

what dose the stores have to do with having a club and whats wrong with the 2 stores we have.

i guess nothing, im all for it. But as for the stores nothing is wrong with them, if you like brown frags and parasite infested fish. but personally i like high quality specimens, but i will say aquariums plus has gotten better, i Just wish Redding had ONE store comparable to fish etc or reef connections.

i agree Chris, but the question is, are their people in Redding or are we talking 3 or 4 people?

I know 9 and maybe as many as 12 people, myself included right off. At least 6 would be regulars.

My daughter said to me recently that she is just one person. I had to reminde her that's where it all begins.
