Club $$ Sugggestions

Thanks Brian,

I think we are about set on a club par meter. Next step is to get a good one that will last.

for whatever its worth, we did some research and had several people recommend Apogee instruments. We ordered direct from them. it was around $240 with shipping. it is a quantum meter.

contact info: 435-792-4700

this is the different meters they have, we got the QMSS :

as i recall they gave us a discount since it was for a club. we paid $219.00

Not trying to dump that idea BUT Larry has a par meter already, which he has offered to let most of us borrow (as long as he knows you).

Yea and as far as I know Mel is the only one to take him up on it. Doesn't seem to be much interest in checking par.

Larry has a LUX meter; I think we are more interested in measuring PAR since it will give a better idea of how the corals will respond, unless he recently bought a different one?

PAR / LUX

As far as a library goes... it's not a bad idea. I'm in a Aviculture Society (Parrot Breeding Club) and we have a library that's just stashed full of books. You can check them out for as long as you want. If you want to check out a book someone has, you find out who has it by looking at the card, and then let them know. Of course, this requires good ethics. Of course, don't keep the books forever, just as long as you need them, pay for them if you damage them, etc. Good investment though. Especially if you don't want to purchase a book just to read a certain part. It will also be nice because a lot of libraries don't have books on specialized subjects.

As far as our library goes... we rent a building for our meetings and store our books at the building. Since we don't have a set place for our meetings, that could be a little tough.

So have any decisions been made concerning club money and uses for it? Maybe we could spend some time at the next club meeting to discuss it or the BOD meet at the beginning and go from there.
