Does anyone remember the info Allan gave us on the way pH rises & lowers in multiplications? I have a Q at WWM about a fellow using a pH controller (+CO2 tank w/ solenoid valve) to drive down the pH of his discus tank to about 6.6 and maintain it at that range(+ - 0.1 PH swing). He want's to know if the frequent 0.1 pH (from 6.5-6.6) change is harmful to his fish?

I wasn't at the meeting, but I do know tha pH is a logarithmic scale...that is to say that a pH 0f 8 is 10x more basic than a pH of 7....not sure if that's what you're looking for, but a pH swing of 0.1...even frequently, is not harmful. to Discus.

I used to keep and Breed discus. Since discus are kept at higher water temps around 85-92 degrees the addition of C02 might cause them to breathe harder unless at night the person is keeping an airstone running at night. Discus are worst than SPS one day they look good and a sudden change in water quality and they turn black (Discus Disease). When that happens they usually perish. Many people with planted tanks run the problem running CO2 and oxygen levels at night due to the fact when lights are on plants are absorbing the C02 and when the lights are off the plants are absorbing oxygen and expelling C02 and the fish are gasping for air. So some people run an airstone at night to counter act this problem. Hope to be a help to your friend.

My 2 red discus have black spots on their face. Is that black-spot disease? they don't look nearly as robust as my blue ones.

The discus disease is where the discus turns a dark color. Sometime signs are skinny head or stomach area. Or very lethargic. I doubt your discus has that from your description but a pic will help if you got one.
