cmcneil's reef savvy build thread

..........UPDATE TIME..........
I talked to Felix from Reef Savvy yesterday and I should be taking delivery of my new custom starphire tank at the end of this upcoming week :D .I am very excited to see it in person even though Felix sent me some teaser pics the other day.the tank looked like a diamond,it is so well built.Felix even commented on how he wished he made one like it for the MACNA tank he donated as a raffle prize.he is even making my overflow box out of black glass just because it looks so nice with the black back glass.I was going to drive to Miami to pick up the tank but Felix told me he is coming to Tampa to deliver some other tanks and made me a great deal for the delivery fee that I couldn't pass it up.so I should have the tank in hand by Saturday(probably earlier)since he is going to MACNA.once I get the tank I will post some pics of it.I really need to get working on my stand again so I can get that bad boy up and running ASAP since I have all the equipment except one more flow pump.if anyone has a vortech mp-10 or tunze nano wavebox they are selling please pm me with a price, this is the only piece of equipment I still need.if it is a vortech I would rather it be a WES model so I can sync the pumps for a wave.otherwise I will just get the nano wavebox for the wave and the mp-10 I currently have to blow the bottom of the tank to keep detritus suspended for the wavebox to pick up.pics will come as soon as the tank is in my possession.

Well I gety tank Saturday :D ,Felix sent me pics and I am amazed at how awesome this tank came out.here are the pics he sent me.
.....enjoy.....

The quality of reef savvy's work is impeccable and worth every penny they charge.if you are on the ropes about ordering a tank from Felix these pics should put any doubts to rest.

Sam it's just an external overflow,I will be using a standard durso drain on the tank and a second durso right before the sock.when you set it up that way it is dead silent.the big slot on the back wall will have a black acrylic piece with 1/4" slots cut into it to keep fish and critters from getting into the overflow box.

That looks like a piece of art, very nice. You will need a furniture grade stand to match.

So does that mean you are going to help me make one?I want to make door frames and place frosted glass into them.I already have the stand frame built,I just need to skin it out and do trim and door work.

Dpx88 what are the dimensions of your tank?
Duke, the stand is just a frame ATM but I will be getting back to work soon on it.

I'm not too bad with putting them together, not sure about furniture grade but we could get it close. I'm sure you know to make the skins easily removable, my latest slides off after removing a few screws. LMK, I have a few specialized tools and clamps to make it easier.

Ralph,I want my skin permanently mounted so it adds to the structural integrity of the stand.my doors will be large enough to have easy access to all the equipment underneath.I wouldn't mind some help just so I get it done faster so I can begin setting it up.lmk when you could possibly help and we can work it out.I really need someone to make me door frames that I can insert frosted glass or acrylic into and I know I can't make those and get the square.

great looking tank Chris, the back wall and overflow reminds me of an AGE.going to be sweeeeeeet when your done.

Mrharvard seeing them in person made up my mind, they are just so well built.mine is made from 1/2" starphire so it's very strong and should have no chance of busting.
John, that is where I got the idea from was bruces old 240g AGE,his overflow was the same.

I should be around all weekend, may be chasing a little wind and surf if that depression develops but could certainly help out, give me a call and we can figure it out.

Will do Ralph,I won't be needing doors this weekend anyway.I'll do the major work first then worry about the doors.

well i took deliver of my new Reef Savvy tank last night and it was well worth the wait and money.everything about the tank is top notch, the seams are bubble free, the edges are perfectly beveled and polished, and the he even used black glass for the overflow which looks great.the tank is made from 1/2" thick starphire on 3 sides and black glass for the back.the overflow box is nice sized and i should have no problem getting mt drain assembly into it and have plenty of extra room.im going to make a cover plate for the overflow box to keep saltwater splash/spraying from getting on the wall behind it.i went ahead and siliconed in my overflow weir guard today and it looks awesome.i am going to buy some birch furniture grade plywood tomorrow to skin the stand out and trim it out with some fancy trim work.im not going to get too crazy on the trim but i do want it to look classy.i plan on making door frames and then inserting either frosted glass or plexy in them since i saw a stand like that and it looked great.i still want to get some granite to fit around the tank but dont know if its in the budget yet.here are some pics i took last night of the tank after i got it into my back room.

i cant wait to get this bad boy online so i plan on getting working my booty off to get the stand done.i dont have my final flow pump but i plan on running the tank for about 60 days with no corals so im not worried about having all of he pumps yet.i think my mp-10 plus my sicce sycra 3.0 return pump will be enough for now.i think im going to get a tunze nano wavebox to create the wave and use my mp-10 to blow the tank botom and keep the detritus suspended for the wavebox and overflow to pick up.
