CO2 gas.

Middle of the night last night my cell phone just went crazy with messages from my Apex. I have an alarm set when the PH of my reactor goes above 7.5. Meaning its out of gas. So I plan to leave work a bit early today and get a refill on my 20# tank. So it got me thinking. When i refilled last I just went to my local welding shop and bought a 20# tank. Cost me something like $25 and change. But is there a difference between that gas and something you would use in our application or in beer making? Basically, are there different grades of CO2?

Nope BUT if you want to go crazy you can get medical grade. It's more pure because of the procedures they have to follow but the difference is not worth the price or the hassle.

CO2 gas.

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but does anyone know where to get a smaller tank? The tank I have now is a PITA to remove from under the stank. If not I will be forced to put the tank about 40 feet away from the reactor. I am not even sure if that's okay to do, but I don't know why it wouldn't be.

What size do you have now?

Ok. New 20# CO2 tank is in. I think next change I may need a new reg as the threads on this one seem a bit jacked up. It was a PITA to get it screwed on. Anyways, just for giggles I figured I will check to see how much my Alk has gone down as I checked it last night about this time and using a RS Pro kit. My ALK reading was 9.52. Now 24 hours later I checked it again. This time my Alk is 8.96 so a net loss of .56.

So inputting the present Alk level and the level from last night with an approximate water volume of 375g I come up with 149.9 ml of 2 part a day. So am I wrong in assuming that my present usage is roughly 150ml/day? Is that how it works? Just curious as to if and how I can compare my CA reactor to dosing usage.

The answer will partly depend on the two part solution you use. With the most common recipe (like Randy's Recipe #1) that number should be about right. I know I have about half the volume of you and a 0.5 Alk drop will require me to dose about 75 mls.
