Coatings/barriers - non-reef objects - a shoe for example

Hi all,

A show on TV (don't want to say the name) puts non-reef safe objects in the water. I assume they dip/coat these objects with something.

What is coating they use?

I think we all know which show you're talking about :)

Tanked does some things that a lot of people disagree with on these forums.

I think it was mentioned a lot in a couple episodes, or you could just contact ATM.

Also, just curious, why the heck do you want to put a shoe in your tank??

I've heard that and didn't want to promote trouble.

I don't :lolspin: I'm just curious what they use and using a shoe as an example - sort of....

Suppose you wanted to - for whatever reason - build a long seagrass tank complete with odd items lost by beach-goers (fisherman's boot , a watch, sandal etc - to add interesting effects to the display)....You'd need to coat them somehow.

I've never seen tanked put something not fish safe in an aquarium. Most of the time, they make a mold from it and make a fish safe replica.

The problem with coating things is that the are plenty of burrowing critters and all it takes is one to exploit a weak area and it's now exposed. Reef safe replica is the way to go.
