Coepod Sanctuary

Since my sister bought me a scooter blenny for no reason. I've decided to keep him and call him my own. Anywho, since I found out that the blenny eats meaty products i've come to the conclusion that he only eats coepods. So im going to buy a coepod starter thing and set up a tiny nano for it with some rubble L.R. Now my question is...

1)Does size of the tank/container matter?
2)Is filtration necessary? (water changes)
3)Is lighting necessary?
4)What do coepods eat?
5)After I've set it up how long do I have to wait until I transfer the coepods for feeding?
6) How do I transfer the coepods? (Do I take the rubble rocks and put it in my main tank?)

It takes weeks (if not months) to establish a copepod sanctuary.

What did you plan to feed the Blenny in the meantime? I recommend taking the fish back to the store where your sister bought it until you are ready.

copepods eat phytoplankton, so you might want to research culturing phyto, too.

I'm getting a starter culture from a warehouse only 10miles away from my place, so that should get me started. I'm planning to get this:

I might put my foot in my mouth after saying this, but why would you want to culture pods that grow in the arctic? Are you putting a big chiller on your culture tank? Are those pods alive?

Is artic diffrent from Arcti? Yeah well I wiki'ed it and it says that they are harvested in the artic ocean so im pretty sure there used to cold waters. I'll be getting this instead if this works better with warmer waters...

Amazing information there Reeses! Now I got all the information I needed. But just one question for those who have already started a coepod culture...Is it necessary to have an air pump? Or will I do good without one?

Just to clear one thing up, Arcti-Pods are not a live culture. The product you mentioned after that, Tigger-Pods is a live culture.

When do you plan on going by? I'd like to give you a sample of the Arcti-Pods to try on your scooter. I've had great luck when trying it on scooters and mandarins at a few local wholesalers. PM me if your interested

I'm still not sure wether I want to go or just have it shipped to my door. lol, but the shipping is 10bucks. And gas over there is like 5-10bucks? Ionno how much gas is but anywho I will PM you for sure for the artic ones. Unless you want me to pay shipping and you can just ship it to me :-D

I used Florida Pets not too long ago in order to renew my pod supply and I was very pleasantly suprised. The last time I ordered something like that was about 6 or 7 years ago (I forget from whom but I did not like what I got).

Here is the thing about pods....If you have GOOD quality live rock, then you already have a pod population. Feed it and it will grow. If you want to kick start your pod population, share some reef rubble with fellow aquarists in your area. Both of these are relatively inexpensive solutions.

Has anyone ordered from that reed-store.com site? I ordered tigger pods and phyto a week ago with 2 day shipping and now the order status hasn't changed, they don't reply to any emails or phone calls. (Calls go straight to voice mail). I'd like to hear from anyone who's actually had success (or failure even) with reed-store

That's strange. I've ordered from them several times (last time was a couple of weeks ago). I've always been very happy with the service (they've actually called me on Sunday with a question about my order, and shipped twice on Monday even though they don't ordinarily do that).

I made the same order as you...I just got my shipment confirmation yesterday and I havent checked, I'll check it now =)

The tracking number hasnt been sent into the system yet. They reply to most of my e-mails. For some fishy reason its like once you buy the product they become more and more difficult to get a hold of.

Update: I just checked and they gave me one tracking number for two shipping companies. I have no idea whats going on...DHL e-mailed me that my shipment is being sent to me but it says that its been sent out via 2day fedex. Odd

Hmm... Well I checked my order status again, it still says "new order", it's irritating because the payment was taken out of my account last monday. I emailed them this morning again and I just called them again and got voicemail, but that's what I expected for Sunday anyway. Well I guess I'll call them 10 more times tomorrow... It does make me feel better that others have dealt with them successfully lately...
