Coffee Table Book

I posted this in the lounge but no one was able to help, maybe those who appreciate photography can help me.

I have a birthday coming up and the wife asked what I want. I was thinking of a nice book on home reefs. In the freshwater planted tank world the undisputed king is Takashi Amano and he has beautiful books of planted tanks with a brief description of the fauna and flora therein. such as this

So what I'm looking for is a coffee table size book, with big glossy pages, quality pictures, of home reef aquariums. (please not of wild photography no matter how good it is - the goal here is a book showcasing aquariums) A description of the tanks inhabitants and maybe mechanics would be a nice plus as well.

Thanks!

While not exactly what you are asking for, the closest I have seen is Ultimate Marine Aquariums by Michael S. Paletta. Now if you want wild photography, I have some friends in that business that I used to travel with.

How about starting a thread asking people to submit their best tank pics and with their permission creating your own coffee table book using snap fish or shutterfly.

Its funny you should say that, I was thinking the same thing this morning, there really is some beautiful work on this forum.
Do you think people would share a high resolution picture for this project?

for being in a book it would be ok for some i guess. image rights ownership is hard to tell tough over the internet, so if someone posts a pic that does not belong to him as his own, you might be in trouble i guess. if you find a way to deal with that, it would be a great idea, i would buy that book :)

Personally, I would share my high-res photos for the purpose of a book. I only post low-res, watermarked photos on these forums but I would definitely be willing to submit some of my better high-res photos for your book.

Not sure about other users but if this happens, let me know and I'll definitely share. That is to say, if you would even want any of my photos :D

I'm honored! Heck I'd make a whole book from your photo's, they're exactly what I'm I'm looking for!

Would you let me have a FTS? Your macro's are really something else. I have no problem with a discreet water mark...

You asking me for a fts? Or someone else lol. I don't think my tank is as good as half the people on here lol

Well truth be told your tank looks great under your macro lens, but I don't think I've seen a full shot...

And once we're on the topic, where's the gold at?

I thought that's what he wanted for. Private use for his own coffee table and not for mass retail

In that case, assuming someone would give him single usage rights, he would be in business. A "Coffee Table Book" normally has the connotation of high quality printing of high resolution, post processed images, and I have friends who do that kind of work, hence my confusion.

Well yes, my original request was for the real thing, and it kinda evolved from there. Obviously as good as snapfish or picaboo is, it wouldn't be the real thing.

In that case, you should check out my original recommendation which is very close to what you originally requested and has lots of information about each of the tanks in the book.

I have Ultimate Marine Aquariums, and I have to say that a lot of the pictures in the book are quite underwhelming... I would rate it a 6/10.

Well, I never said it was good. But it is about as close to what was asked for as exists.
