Colini angelfish

Hi everyone. I'm from Singapore. Just tore down my old tank and waiting for my new 183 gallon tank this coming wednesday.

Here's my pair of Centropyge Colini in hypo and QT for the next few weeks.

In the same QT tub is a pair of carribean sailfin blennies too.

Pardon the first photo. The colours are abit saturated. Here's a better photo with more realistic colours.

The reason for posting is, the two angels are fine and get along very well, but are feeding sparingly and not as much as i wanted.

This is a difficult centropyge species that is commonly available in my country from time to time. They're eating live brine and frozen mysis. Any idea how to increase food intake though? Or will they just eat more in time to come.

thanks :)

wow what a nice looking pair of fish,

thanks! they're currently in QT undergoing hypo while waiting for their new home. Problem is they are eating but only sparingly.

this is a difficult fish i know, and i've been very lucky in pairing them and getting to feed. now the problem is improving their appetite.

maybe they're still getting used to the new qt tank and all. it's only been day 3.

you should try enriching the live brine at least to give as much nutrition as possible with what they do eat

the QT tank is running on hyposalinity at SG of 1.010-1.011. i don't know how long liverock can survive in there.

i did place a small piece of liverock with plenty of macroalgae and sponges and they just picked at it like a pack of hungry dogs, hoping that the liverock will stimulate their appetite. i then smeared some frozen homemade seafood blend and they picked at it. but fearing the seafood blend would deteriorate my QT tank, i removed it after about half hour (whatever that was un-eaten). i removed the small liverock after about an hour and they stripped off all macroalgae and sponges.

I concluded that with some liverocks, these fishes felt extremely comfortable and began picking away non stop. However, it's impossible to keep this up in hypo, and i don't want to feed too much in a bare QT with little biological filtration. As it is, i'm doing my part by 30-40% water changes every 2 days.

sounds to me like they are eating just fine, if you are concerned about having the live rock in there too long you might try putting it in for a couple hours then pull it. Let them eat what they want to eat would me my thought.

They do need LR during the acclimation period, like all Centropyge. But if you see them eating prepared foods, half your battle is won. My main concern is that QT doesn't have anything in the way of REAL hiding places, right now. that will cause your angels truckloads of STRESS. Put some base rock in there ASAP!
