Anyone have any feedback on this sponge..been reading alot of negative things about it like it can be invasive,toxic,and smother other corals...its apreety nice sponge it has tripled in size from when I got it just curious about it

I am pretty sure people's complaints about this sponge are due to what you mentioned- it grows well. Apparently, people don't want their sponges to grow big. Of course, in some peoples' cases, the sponge grew so big it started blocking the light from getting to their other corals, so that is an understandable complaint. Still, you can always frag it and sell it off, or just plan your tank wisely and put it at the bottom of the tank to begin with so that it can grow as big as it likes without you having to worry that it will block other corals from the light.

I don't know whether or not it is toxic, but I kind of doubt it, since ReefGen sells frags of it. I would think that if it were toxic, it would release those toxins into the water when someone tried to frag it, in which case ReefGen probably wouldn't be able to frag it, nor would they want to.

That's what I've done placed it on the bottom so it doesn't cover anything up.anyone else have this in their tank..would like to see how everyone elses look

this doesn't have anything to do with your sponge but, I love your little friend peeking out of the LR...

Thanks stang the blennie is a cool fish picked up some barnacle cluster for him one day at a local marine antique store and he called it home one day he just happens to live next to the sponge

I recently picked up a frag of this sponge and am excited to see it grow out. The store I got it from had a lot and it was definitely growing plates one on top of another. The guy at the LFS said that it was photosynthetic.

Have it in three tanks. Growth pattern is different in all 3.

75- flat and hugs the rocks(sand is from mantis)

90- branching

65- plating w/ slight branching

Don't see how it could be considered invasive as it peels off pretty easily.

Now that is awesome... branching one is pretty neat..are they all from the same sponge? If so I'll try to frag some off to see if I can get the same results..

They're all from the original frag I got a few years back. The branching pieces are right in front of a MP40 which I assume is responsible for the growth pattern.
