color changes

my and i have bought many H. Reidi and at the LFS they where yellow and once we put in tank they changed to black and browns. then we went and bought so more that were yellow from another LFS and they are staying white. someone said that my light was too white on the spectrum. can anybody give input on this

well, horses change color with thier environment, and because of stresses. not because of light.

make sure your feeding them right: (frozen mysis-NOT BRINE IN ANY WAY SHAPE OR FORM) and if you get colorful hitching posts, some of the black ones may go back to yellow.

mine are alllllll black colored, FWIW.

All my black Reidi have turned different colors. They are different shades of yellow, really cool looking.

this past week we bought four white horses and they are still white, now the black ones have turned white on different times, mostly in the morning when they make there trip around the tank but turn back black. but the ones we got this week have staied white and are H. Reidi also.some people say it is because of the surroundings but we have evey color you can think of in there. when i can learn to post pics i will send one for everbody to see. all this seahorses stuff baffles me but i'm enjoing ever minute of it.

They can change color when they want, as was already mentioned. When my erectus where mating they would change from black to white to yellow to green and red in the matter of a few minutes. I've heard diet has something to do with it also.

I do think some of the color can come from high nutrient water (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, PO4, etc). We had some bright yellow young reidi in pristine water with daily large changes in the growout system (70+ gallons). When we put them in the display, which went through a small cycle because of their addition and feeding they changed from yellow to black. The water is back to normal now and most have said black and only flash white when a young male is trying to court.
