Color Morph Test

A few weeks ago I saw a colony of green palys that I liked, but I though may do a color shift in a different tank. After that reefer and I made a trade, I got these green paly's in my tank and went away for 2 weeks. I havent seen them until today, as when I left, the frag was still stressed and closed up.

Here they are today. I have them in my prop tank, under an eggcrate shelf that provides it a lot of shade. The pic is taken under 10K 175MH and is RAW, not edited in any way.

Look at the color! not in anyway green. I have contacted the trader to see if they can post a pic in their tank.. Im really not sure where this color is going, but you can see the purple/baby blue clouding inside the purple, and alot of stardust speckling..
Very cool!

I know the pics arent super, but they are mostly true to what I see. If they were out from under the shelf, I could get a better pic, but I dont want to move them yet..

Hiya,

How interesting! You know, I've always felt the green part is really the speckling or dusting, because the new growth tends to look more purple then green. So I think the green dusting is something that occurs as response to light. I think Whodah did an article at one time discussing 'freckling' and its relation to light. Here's some pics of the mother colony:

This is the colony whilte in the tank of the reefer I bought them from, she had MHs over them:

This is a picture of it in my nano, under 50/50 PC lighting:

This is a picture after I fragged it and it was kind of grumpy, but you can see how the young growth in the center is decidedly less green:

I've just put a frag in my new tank under MH, and I'm very interested to see how they do in there. They're grumpy right now, I'll get a pic soon.

I'm interested to see where they go with you Matt!
