Color of SPS after the change

Ive seen a major change in color in my sps since i changed my lighting to LEDs and im not happy but there has to be something i can do, Are people just lieing about there colors? i went from brilliant blues and greens to pretty much brown. ive seen some friends tanks with LEDs and they all look like mine. reds are bad purples are horrible they are pretty much DIY units like mine. i want to buy a unit that is proven to have great colors but its so hard because for some reason everyone says this one or that one is great and then i read they stink and they give SPS no color. why cant people give one true unit that everyone likes ? Im on another site and i hear the same thing over there so i dont know what LEDs to get..

Mr. Saltwater tank likes Radions. He has a website. I have Stark LEDs. Only been in 4 months no complaints.

LEDs

LEDs

Ive seen pictures and videos but what are they doing to bring out those colors. seems like no one wants to tell there secret. its weird how people will tell you they do nothing but when you go to there house you will find pohls xtra or other supplements. ive read tank threads where the person writes he relies on fish and doesnt dose a single thing then you meet him and he is stocked with all sorts of supplements. it doesnt seem people rely on the LEDs to bring out colors but additives. Is this just me?

It's not all that complicated bigbuckdown. The goal is to make sure your water has little to no Nitrate and little to no Phosphate. Once you have achieved that you will need to find ways to nourish your coral as mother nature intended. Pohl's Extra, Aminos, Cyclopeze, Fish Poo or whatever....try them all in moderation and feed those fish. Just make sure you keep those Nitrates and Phosphate levels extremely low.

MY nitrates are ,5 and phos undetectable as salifert and elos tells me . i run a calcium reactor and feed oyster feast 2 times a week. my water is perfect. its once i changed to LEDs my colors went in the garage with my t5s. i never had to dose anything for color before i switched. so my question is are there any leds lighting systems that will give the same color as t5 without all the supplements

I switched back to T5's after I had radions for 5 months. Not saying they were bad or anything just preferred the colors in my sps with T5's. Since you had no problem coloring up sps before, maybe it is your leds? What are you running now? I still see some great sps colors led's though obviously on RC, so it's only one factor in the equation.

I have 3 ai sol white units now running close to 100% and have the same problem. AI told me to up the intensity more or buy another unit. After spending all this money on them I really don't want to buy another one and still have brown SPS. I'm trying to figure out if I should get UV stunners or T5s to help bring the tank back to life.

Are you talking about an instant change in color? or the loss of color over time?

What do you have?

I agree with the Radions... They give you the best control...

I just added two t5's to my 120g which has three ai sols above it. The colors in my coral are dramatically better since I added the t5 for supplementation. I added one purple figi and true actinic and all my corals just glow now. I still like my ai's because of the controllability factor but imo they do need supplementation.

hey

hey

so whats the point of having a expensive LED unit then if you need to add T5s? maybe i will reconsider buying new LED pendants and go back to ATI t5. the new dimmable fixture. WOW really bummed about this :(

You still havent stated exactly what your led setup is. Do you have anymore information on what youre using?

IMO Add T5s. They will help.

I am not an expert on lighting, I have had led lights since day one on my tank and my corols have nice colors, maybe not knock you out but nice.

What's your LED setup?details? Did you properly acclimate them to your new light setup? The light spectrum of light affects the color of corals.

They lost colors cause most likely due to changes in lighting. New corals do best if they are slowly acclimated to their new lighting. Placing the new coral in an area of less light for a time, then gradually moving it to more light will allow the corals to adjust their zooxanthellae cell density and their production of chlorophyll. There are also other factors involved.

I went from a 6 bulb 48 inch fixture to 2 radions and i enjoy the colors i get with the radions. The majority of the colors in my tank i prefur with the leds compared to the t5. Espically lps really shine when under leds but im mainly and sps person and those colors really started to change over the course of 2 months.

I went from 2 250MH & 2 T5 combo to;

25RB leds and 12CW at 50% with 1 actinic T5, purple + T5 combo.

My colors are getting better! :)

is it the range of color? i've read opinions that have one blue and one white doesn't cover enough and there needs to be multiply led color types to keep everything healthy.
