I have notice a red hair like stuff on the bottom of my tank never really noticed it before it looks like a flat duct ball with hair any ideas ???what it might be

ok thanks this stuff wont kill stuff right away it will be ok until mon afternoon or is there something i can put in the tank to get rid of it

Sounds to me like Cyano! http://www.melevsreef.com/id/cyano.html It usually comes in a layered duct-insulation looking pattern on the sand like you described. Add more flow etc.
