do you have a tds meter? I would go off the tds meter rather than the color change. Some people change the filters when they stop getting 0. But really you can survive with 3-5ppm from the tds meter. Anything more than that and you better replace them.
Before DI you should have about 10ppm. DI will bring it down to 0.
