colt coral colors

1. various shades of brown/tan.

if you see a colorful colt coral, it's been dyed that color. the color will fade and the coral may not survive the ordeal anyway.

I just bought a yellow colt last week friday. Looked so pretty in the LFS store so I bought it. Wish I researched this coral a bit more b/c I didn't think it was died but it seems like it is. Plus, its not looking too good in my tank. Any suggestions?

it'd dyed if it's a colt coral.

dendronephtheas and scleronephtheas OTOH, can be all kinds of colors including red.

Dendros are supposed to be very hard to keep. Is it the same for the Scleronephthya? I'm not finding much info on that one. One website used both names interchangeably. Are they the same thing as each other??

I have a colt coral that is pink. It is definitly not dyed, cause Ive had it for months and is about 10 times the origional size. Ill try to put a pic up tomorrow if anyone wants to see it.

There are many corals that seem to be called "Colt" around. A lot of them seem to be different from each other as well. So folks are prob. putting corals of different genuses in the same general "Colt" category.

forddna: The red colt could mean Chili coral, Alcionum palmatum, A. glomeratum.

Dendronephthya and scleronephthya are quite different, pictures are here:
Scleronephthya with it's distinctive dark polyp mouth and light tentacles
.
Wasn't easier for me, though :)

Taxonomy of the both is in this pdf file.
There is a lot of information on keeping scleronephthya, here at Reef Central too.

lovethemfish: Post picture of your coral, please: I have no colt coral at all, but if leathers cold be green, pink should look as good :p
