COMAS Frag Donor Program!!

Due to the lack of coral frags being returned to the donor program there will be no frags for waiting sponsors this month again.

For those that have frags out, it is imperative that frag sponsors return frags of the frags that have been checked out. If we do not do this, the program will not be able to function.

Over the next few weeks I will be contacting members that have had frags out for an extended period of time to see if they are needing help to frag the corals checked out. We know who has these frags out, but feel free to contact me if you are needing help/advise fragging them.

If there are any questions that I can help you with, please feel free to contact me. Lets keep this program going. :D

A small part of the 'problem' may be that this year we had a lot of monthly meetings which deviated from our standard meet. While this is great for the club(jenks aquarium, tank tours, etc) it may have stifled participation a bit in the frag program.

I know of the frags we got last fall, some are very ready to be fragged(eagle eyes!), others not-so-much(favia). I will go ahead and prep a few frags this week for return.

gimmic,

You are correct on the field trips. But, I was hoping to see some come back during the August meeting. That's hind sight at this point. Just trying to get some participation on frags coming back during the upcoming meeting.

Thank you for you responding. If I can help with your frags, please just PM me.

I have been thinking about joining COMAS and one of the main reasons was for the frag program(sounded like a great program) because I am fairly new to saltwater and after buying all the necesities, my bugdet for purchasing corals is pretty tight right now. Plus, with only 4 months left in the year, I won't get the full years benefits for the $25 and have to pay it again in Jan. I have also e-mailed about membership and have never recieved a response.

defdad,

I have sent you a PM pertaining to the frag program and membership. Let me know if I can answer any questions you may have.

I was not trying to imply that the frag program is in jeopardy, it's not. We are just trying to round up some frags from coral that has been out there for a long while.

If anyone has any questions or comments please feel free to respond or PM me. We love to help out.

Thanks,
Glenn

I have enough of the purple pavona to make about 10 frags Glenn. I will return them at the next meeting.

I've got a question about fragging one of these.. I wedged the original circular frag plug into some LR when we first got some eagle eyes last year.

We started with 3 heads and now it has grown out over the entire plug and just started to encrust on the LR. I'm hesitant to pull the plug out since there are only about ~5-10 polyps on the liverock, but I still want to frag it.

I guess maybe i can peel the ones off the LR and glue them to frag plugs.

My question is- when a colony covers multiple chunks of rock, how do you frag without disturbing the entire colony? Should I try to break off a peice of the old frag disc in the tank?
Maybe I'll get a pic up after work today.

Thanks gws-
The suggestion I will probably go with is to scalpel out the old frag rock from surrounding LR and frag the plug.

It is just unfortunate that it will leave a big circle out of the center of my colony in the tank.
