Coming Home and Need Some SPS Frags....Where or Who?

DeathWish302

Clown Hoarder
Well I'm coming back to the Fort for Easter and would like to pick up some brightly-colored SPS (preferably acros) from either a shop or a local reefer. I haven't been on the local scene for LFS in the past few years, so other than 'The Coral Reef' is there any place that sells more than the usual drab zoas and LPS corals? Especially looking for Tyree corals & Oregan/Cali Blue Torts. If you have a frag, shoot me a PM for an email address to send a pic to.

Thanks,

coral reef

Well klous has some tyree leathers,He also might have some acro frags as he is selling frags now. Lots of different stuff.lps, sps, soft corals, brain corals, diferent kinds of acans and lots of fish.
Coral reef thats the place tell him frank sent you, He will treat you well any way but a little help cat hurt.

I've never been disappointed with Klaus's selection/prices for the quality of livestock and knowledge he has shared. Been a follower since he was over next to the Hall's Cake Decorating store on N.Clinton.

As for other stores as 'ThePet Store' and Petwarehouse have went downhill towards the 'I want a nemo fish' market and stock little to nothing I'm interested in buying. Maybe I've been spoiled by a close huge mail-order RC supplier???

Any others? I heard over christmas that a new store was opening on the west side of town near Washington/Jefferson. Did this store ever open, if so how is the selection?

Thanks,

I have a couple pieces that are small but might be able to frag later down the road. I have alot of xenia, kenya tree. brown zoos and brown leathers. Phil has some rare white acros. lol jk. I have some pretty ok stuff. Most of it is pretty small yet. But if there is something you would like shoot me a pm and I might know wher you can get it.

"rare white acros" lol :)

hey mojo what was that green softie that i liked in your tank called again? Sorry i know i asked you like 3 times lol

yes they opened, its called uncle bills. They have some nice stuff but way overpriced

Blah... Another chain. I'm looking for a diamond in the rough type store. Looks like other than Klaus's store, PremiumAquatics is your best bet for selection and prices. I'm not going to like that if/when I move back.....

uncletimmys prices are getting better, and their coral prices arent really too far off from what i saw.

they actually had some good prices on little zoa colonies and such, clams were a little higher than klaus, but he buys larger quantity so he can pass on the savings to us : - )

The others get some nice stuff in from time to time, but klaus is always the standard for quality. Besides, where can you go and talk reef for hours on end. LOL..... Sea dwellers on dupont has some different stuff form time to time. Joel at Sea Dwellers in Angola usually has a surprise for everyone when you go up there.

And for members in the club, there are some that are really getting some nice collections started.

I'll have to check out Sea Dwellers, as if it's similar to the Angola store it should be fine.

I might sound a bit harsh about the stores, nothing personal . I've visited alot of LFS from FL to NY and all down the West coast on weekends during business trips. There are alot of nice small shops out there doing it right. Unfortunately I was not impressed with a few shops I used to visit regularly when I came home for the holidays.

I'm all about fragging, and do it regularly. As soon as the Tubbs Purple-Polyped Green Bird's Nest starts spreading again and the ORA Turq. Stag recovers I'll have a couple frags in the near future.

Thanks for all the input.

There are some local reefers that have some really nice stuff. Not sure what you would consider nice, but Most of what I have is still pretty small as I have bought stuff as frags.

I consider anything that has color other than brown to be nice. Seems most stores sell the usual green shrooms, xenia, dragon eye zoas, a few LPS and the like as their staple corals. These bore me. Really looking for Cali/Oregon Blue Tort, but anything with bright colors I would at least be interested to look at. I may have to wait until I hit the local scene before exploring alot of the personal collections though.

This is what I consider NICE!

By the way mojo, have you researched further about possibly trying a I-Tech skimmer from John??? His shop is hands down the BEST I've ever been at in Oldsmar, FL. A MUST stop if your in the Tampa area ever.

nice stuff. I probably will not unless he contacts me to do one. I had to ask to get one forum shut down that his supporters were in as they couldnt keep to topic. His skimmers are not magical or anything. I dont know. I may contact him. Just kinda urcked me how they push their product here and are not even RC supporters. I have a ton more to say about the situation but nothing more about their skimmers. I will be reviewing the alpha 250 cone next. Then I dont know what. dont have anything planned yet.

I'm not one to jump on any bandwagon, just the cost of the I-Tech would be in my range if i would ever buy a pre-fabbed skimmer. You do get what you pay for, but the $1k skimmers out there can be had for 1/4 the cost with a little effort, research, and some construction time. I've DIY'ed every skimmer I've ever owned. You get a more in-depth understanding of what works and what does not. Diy-ing has burnt me in the past with acrylic modern art as the final product. My next prototype will be a 'knock-off' of all the cone skimmers. I figure it should be easy to hit the $300 mark for a medium sized skimmer.

Just wondering your next move...

Yea I have made my own parts as well. Teh cones from i tech are cheaper. But then add another $125 for a pump and your not that far off of a swc cone. For the money the swc is molded and not hot air welded. The ATB is welded, But the work is flawless. You would nt even know if they didnt tell you. Or I have actualy taken classes on welding plastic.
Well good luck with your project. I dont really care to speak further on any itech item. But next is the BK/vertex Alpha 250 cone. Good luck with your cone. Mojo~
