Comments on (remote style) deep sand bed in sump

I'm building a sump out of a 29 gallon tank, and I'm looking for comments about integrating a dsb into it.

I'm thinking of having a raceway type structure to house the dsb.

It's going to house about 6-8 inches (depth) of sand, about 2-3 inches of water over it, and it's going to be about 3 inches wide and 24 inches long.

It's basically going to end up being a box built out of glass and painted black to keep out all light (all sides, top and bottom). Each end will have an opening for water inflow and outflow.

I'm planning on feeding it directly from my skimmer. That way, detrieus should be kept to a minimum but it should still allow me some decent rdsb capabilities.

The display tank is 44 gallons. I'm planning on 5x turnover/hour of the dt through the sump, and the skimmer is rated for a 150-180 gallon system. I'm not near the skimmer so I don't know the make and model offhand, nor do I have any way of knowing the throughput of the skimmer.

I'm looking for thoughts and comments.

I'm kind of modelling this off of the RDSB concept in a covered 5 gallon container, however I don't have room for the container.

Oh...and I am planning on a light bioload in the dt....probably 3-4 fish, some softies, about 70 lbs of live rock, and a shallow sand bed. The system is in the construction phase right now.

I do have several power heads for dt flow.

Thanks in advance for any constructive input!
