Ex-nay on the party, unless you all drink Natty Ice. I don't have a big enough system to show off yet. But if anyone needs a refresher course on Latin, I'll do my best to help. Like smoothdog mentioned above, when people butcher words it's really upsetting. Kinda like a rap song. But in my defense, in scientific literature chaeto (not chEAto), is pronounced KAY-TOE. I was hoping this could be a little more constructive and educational. And noobs, don't put the fluffy crunchy orange snack in your tank to export nutrients.

don't be shy. 15 guys and couple ladies surrounding a nano tank is cool. if we all waited till we had a Nook size system we all be dead from holding our breath.

if ya wanna start a cool thread as such you can always collect them and have a nice mod ... cough Nook, cough ... edit your original post by adding them. I haven't seen one thread or conversation ever not get hi-jacked some how. I respect what you are doing and if you would like to go as far as to generate a list for the noobs. The club can accommodate a page on our website people can reference. just a thought

Hey, I've popped in on the SLASH side of reef central a few times in the past, but always seem to lose track of it somehow. Gonna have to bookmark this since you guys and gals are halfway close to me and seem like an active bunch.

Like others here, I've always and still do struggle with the pronounciation thing. I saw a link to this guide long ago and bookmarked it. See how many of these you are saying right (or in my case how many of these you even recognize).

Whoa now, rap music(all music) is an expressive art form. It's lyrics are pronounced exactly the way you hear them. Not only that, but Ebonics be real too... E-bon-ics :lol:

i didn't know that about coralline either but sadly I do not that about Chaetomorpha and can not seem to break my habit of it lol
 
Not a bad idea rams. I totally don't intend to be correcting people. Like I said, I'm an offender also. But it would be nice to start a reference sticky thread that everyone could contribute to. Let's see if nook chimes in here.

5) Mysis: pronounced "my-sis"

According to most of the reputable dictionary sites, this is the pronunciation. We are going to be the smartest-sounding club ever.
 
I'm too much like Ram's, I just say it. The rebel in me doesn't care if it's right or not. Then again I aints the smartest feller around either, so I just hopes yall get it.

Why do we have to have names for stuff. The pretty green one, or the ugly brown stuff has always worked for me.

In latin a CH followed by two vowels makes a hard K sound, and the AE makes a long E sound.

Keytoe (Chaeto) or PolyKeet (Polychaete).

I always want to yell at Rams when he says Detritus.

He says Det-tree-us.
It's De-try-tus.

It is MY-SIS.
Like Stupidsreef would say: "I was going to marry MY SIS but my Uncle beat me to it."

haha no I don't, I call it Dee -Tree -Tus
like Deee -Troit > Bad -Things

but, from now on when I'm around you. I will call it > Dee -Dir -Tay

but I stand cor -rec -ted... :D
 
Haha I have a buddy that says DEE-troit instead of Deh-troit. Funny you mentioned that one. This reminds me of a certain line from The Hangover. And thanks for the backup letmegrow; they were gangin' up on me.
