i just picked up a male lyertail anthias today. he has been in the tank for a few hours and is already out and about, eating, and doing fine. my ? is this.... would it be a problem for the anthias if i were to throw a blue jaw triggerfish in with him? has anyone here done this before and what were the results?

so far in my 75 gallon reef i have a yellow coris wrasse, sixl lined wrasse, diamond watchman gobe, lawnmower goby, and the anthias.

i would like to add a female lyertail, blue jaw, and a purple tang to the list.

mixed reef sps, lps, and softies

I think you are asking for trouble w/ all those goobies and id expect trouble w/ the six and choris! Tang will need more room then a 75 !! All i can say is dont over stock!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And do some reading on what gos into your tank take the recommended tank size and experence part into REASON!! And enjoy!!!!!! To answer your question about anthias they do better in odd #s I think 1 male 2 female or the other way around!

i am not needing a debate on overstocking a tank.

i am just wondering the compatability of a lyertail and a blue jaw trigger. there is no info on specific triggerfish with specific anthias that i can find

The bluejaw is usually very mellow, and would likely hide for seral days even weeks, only coming out for food. Would not see a problem with those two, but might with some of the other little guys.
The BJ would get larger than the 75 would be comfortable housing, you might want to look for a large tank down the road.

I had a bluejaw in my 125 gal. & he became so aggressive I had to get rid of him.

I believe he even killed my female mandarin.

and IMO a trigger is too large of a fish for a 75g.
