Hello, and thanks in advance for your help.

I recently bought a used Tunze power head (motor sits outside tank above the pump) and a new Tunze 7091 controller. The two together seem to work fine, but the pump won't work on my set-up for fit reasons (room between tank and light fixture).

I tried using the controller to operate my in tank power heads which are SEIO brand. The power heads made a rattling sound and didn't seem to be operating properly. I've now disconnected the controller but would like to use it. Is it necessary to use a Tunze pump with the Tunze controller. If yes, why. If no, what is your thought on the noise from the SEIO power head.

Thanks for your help,

I assume you mean the 7091 controller with the 7094.40 socket designed for use with the 2002 and 4002? This control set up only works with split pole motors and will not work with any submersible powerheads. When the 7091 is used with out Electronic submersible powerheads you do not use the 7094.40, instead it plugs directly into the pump driver. It will likely permanently damage any other pump and should not be used.

Yes, the pump is model 4002. So are you saying that the pump and controller are matched? The controller cannot be used on any other pump? If I cannot use the pump, I might as well sell the controller as well?

Thanks for your help!

Steve

Yes, it won't work with anything except a 2002/4002 or a Fischer or EKS pump that has a similar construction. Only external split pole motors can be controlled this way.
