Compatible Tangs

I have a Yellow Tang in a 130gal reef and fish tank. Wanted to add a Naso or sailfin...Been told yes and no way...can anyone clarify their compatibility and are there any tangs that will get along with my yellow

I would skip the naso as they will outgrow a 130. As for the sailfin you should be ok with the YT. Another great tang to look at would be the poweder brown or the Kole tang.

If you put in a sail fin your yellow tang will attack it. Try a small hippo tang it will get big over time and you may be forced so sell it, but you will get more then you payed for it. Will be ok for a few years.

They don't necessarily need to pick on each other. They will get mean towards themselves if they are cramped for room, hiding spots or underfed. Stress will also make them somewhat mean.

I have had naso, salifin, 2 purples and yellow all in together in my 210. They never got in any fights and the yellow and 2 purple would even school around together. The Naso and Sailfin had to move on to larger homes in about a years time. The Naso has a new 850G setup and the Sailfin in a 450. I gave the yellow away to somebody and introduced a BPT, mini hippo and a Mimic. They all get along too with no agression.

The naso and sailfin both get much too big for a 130 but there are many tangs that will get along fine with the yellow in a tank that size.
