Compatible webcam for Apex Fusion gold

While that is partially true, it will only work until the IP address for the DSL router changes unless your ISP has provided a static IP which is rare. If the DSL router power cycles or looses connection to the ISP, the routers external IP address will change. It can also change arbitrarily. This is where dynamic dns comes into play. Companies like DynDns provide an external unique URL to access your internal network. For example, your external url could be something like "myapex.homeip.net". An application on a computer or webcam on your home network or even some routers will update the DynDns servers of your networks external IP so that your Webcam or even Apex can be accessed through the unique URL even if the external IP address changes. In my case, I have a DynDns updater client on a computer at my home and my Dlink webcam also has a Dyn Dns updater in it too. If my IP address ever changes, the Dyn servers are updated and I always have access to my Apex and webcam through my unique urls.

I use DynDns Pro and pay a $40 annual fee so I can access my Apex's native web interface and use the Apex app and can also access my Webcam both with Fusion and without. There are other dynamic dns services out there. Some are free too. I have used DynDns for several years and have stuck with it since it's already setup and works great.

One other thing you may need to do when accessing your webcam from outside is to include the port number as part of the IP address. If for example your external IP is: 178.111.111.1 and your webcam port is 1000, you may need to type: 178.111.111.1:1000 to access the cam from outside your home network.

That all costs to much. Just update your IP address if you notice it stops working, it will take 2mins. I've had the same IP for 9yrs at my home so I can't imagine it changing to much

Plug it into iTunes and factory reset it. May need her iTunes email and password tho.

I have an old Android phone as my apex webcam. Same deal, free app. Just plug it in and prop it up on something lol.

Yea, so of course, my daughter couldn't remember the old passcode for her old iPhone 4 :furious: .
Had to default to the iTunes factory reset via DFU mode on the iPhone.
Then had to get my daughters iTunes email and password to gain access . Got it all unlocked. Thanks for the info .
Only the App wasnt free .......I used the iPCamera app for Iphones, and it was .99 . I can live with that.

Ok keep me posted :-)

I can only see the live video stream when I'm on my home network. Once I step outside or use my wireless service, I lose the live cam stream on the fusion.
What setting or IP I will have to change to be able to view the video remotely?

Got mine all set-up and its working perfectly . Thanks for starting this thread !
After watching the video tutorial on how to set an Iphone up as a web cam .....it worked great. Pretty easy to do, and the video gives excellent, easy to follow directions.
As Slief mentioned , all routers are a bit different when if comes to setting up the port forwarding. But its just a matter of figuring out what you router is "calling" things. Mine router did not match the videos directions on how to set-up the port forwarding , but I was able to figure it out pretty easily and I am not very computer savvy . All the info was in the video, but just the router settings may be called something a little different from the video .

I got mine to work first try. Worked in the house hooked up to wireless NP, but then I nervously tried it "away" from my home network and hooked up to my cell service. Worked flawlessly .

I am sure you can get it too work if I could do it !
Thanks for starting the thread on how to get this set-up ................been putting this off for months . Best .99 Apex webcam option out there !

Oh and btw .....anyone able to figure out how to zoom in on the iPCamera app ?

That's great! I have RCN cable in NY, still not sure how to get the video to stream when on cell service or a different wifi network away from home.

If you have had the same external IP address for 9 years, then you must have a static IP which is a good thing but not common. Normal DSL's change external IP's every time the power is cycled as well as any any time there is an update to the router or service. For me, changing IP's is out of the question regardless of how easy it is. Given that I'm in the computer industry, I understand how simple it is but with my travel frequency, I need to be able to access my Apex at any time whether it's via Fusion, Reeftronics, the Apex App or the default web interface and not worry about IP address changes which happen often enough. Same goes with my webcam. While DynDns does cost, there are other dynamic DNS services out there that are free for those that need it and don't want to worry about IP address changes which can be pretty frequent depending on the ISP.

I dont think the network provider or type matters that much. Only if its dial-up, it may be slow . Other than that ..............shouldnt matter . If you get the port forwarding set-up correctly . Just make sure all your settings are correct. It should work for you .The video spells it out pretty good .............just loosely follow the directions for the port forwarding as your router will probably be a little different than the video. The number designations should be the key .

Mine is a Linksys . Port forwarding was under , Security - Apps and Gaming - Single Port Forwarding .
Then External Port and Internal port used the same number I added to the iPhone iPCamera "network Port" (video uses 1234) . Then the device IP was the IP number from the iPhone "cam" ...........minus the numbers I added .

You will get it figured out ................I will try to help if you need , although I am not really the type to ask about this stuff , but I will try ! :spin2:

Hmmm,
Can you get to the port forwarding options for your router on the routers website (what kind of router are you using) ?
Did you input "your own" port number on the iPCamera "network port" setting ? Its under the general settings tab in the iPhone menu under the iPCamera tab . You should see a "network port" option to change to your own.
Do you have it under the "TCP" protocol ?

I have Arris RCN router. Did all of the above with no luck

The phone will have to stay plugged in to the power. I followed this video tutorial step by step and this is how I just set up mine this morning. It is so exciting to be able to see your tank live video remotely :-)

I set mine up today , the you tube video was a great help, using a IPhone 4. Going to hook up a 2nd one for a side view. I have the extra phones, may as well

Most modern routers can actually be set up with free DDNS. My Asus definitely does, and my Synology (which probably only a few people have) actually includes it too.
