hello there, i went out yesterday and spontaneously decided to upgrade to a marine set up instead of sticking with freshwater! i have no knowledge or experience but am excited to get started, i bought the fluval m60 as it's the perfect size for the room and got it at a discount price which worked out great. i didn't realise till today when i was about to start getting it ready to fill, that the store had forgotten to include the drainage valve tap so i've had to put on hold for a few days till i get one - i thought this would be the perfect time while i'm waiting to get advice with how i should go about filling it and just all the most basic/simple tips because i'm pretty clueless!

It may help to list what equipment you got for example lights, powerheads, skimmer, hob overflow and sump. Also, what do you plan to use live or dead rock, bare bottom or aragonite substrate.
Looking into the future do plan on having just fish or coral as well. If you want coral what type of coral for example, softies, LPS, SPS. The answer to these questions will help you determine what specific equipment you need to successful. Good luck.

Read, read a lot , then read some more. Ask questions, read reviews. Make a checklist of everything your are going to need to eliminate a small mistake that will cost you more money. Make a budget and try to stick to it. Take notes, photos, document it all. Don't skimp on WATER !!!! Weekly water changes, good salt and RO/DI water mix and good lights.
