Concerned about using these rocks.

Used these in an old system. Sat dry outside for a while. Have been given a bleach then vinegar bath and rinsed and sun dried.

I'm concerned esp about rock on left if it's a type of rock not good in saltwater? It doesn't seem very porous at all. Lost filtration is ok, but it's very dark, almost black, and on the other side it's brown in places almost like rust.

The one on right has far more of a bubbly surface, but also very heavy and not all that porous. I would say a different kind of rock though. Great landscaping/shelf/cave rocks, but old tank did have some issues, but I thought that was more me messing up water quality on my own.

But now I wonder if these didn't contribute? Anyone id or otherwise have a good idea yeah/neah?

If it was just some random rocks I would, I didnt take better pics of the angles that make these such prime rock to me.

Any easy way to test for what might be the bad kind of rock? Be it iron or copper or something? (Copper copper test of course....) Or maybe just sit them in some salt water for a week and retest see if they leach any large amount of phosphate and call it good?

if you must use they need to be cooked in ro water with a pump moving water for 2 weeks then repeat. no test kit will pick up all the possible toxins and heavy metals etc.

i still say chuck it
