Conch missing

I've had a Conch for a few months now and at first it would be out and about all the time. Either moving around the tank or just under the sand with it's eyes poking out. But for the last month and a half it stopped coming out. I did find it 2 weeks ago while cleaning the sand and it was still alive, as soon as I put it back on the sand it buried itself.
I don't believe it's coming out at night...I haven't seen it when I look and don't see any signs of tracks in the sand in the morning. Anybody experience the same behavior?

I had an Olive snail in a 10 gallon aquarium that I only saw every few months for years. Sometimes it would surface when there was food in the water. Otherwise, I rarely saw it. Heater broke and electrocuted it.
