hey yall :P

at the moment i am a proud owner of a couple of tank including a non photosynthetic tank, with rhizo spawning once in a while. i have been managing these tank for over a year now and have been doing so succesfully!

my wish has always been to have a large anemone with clownfish swimming in and out of it :P i have taken a liking to condylactis and am wondering what a setup for a single condy with a single clown would look like in its most favorable conditions

i have a spare ecoxotic par 38, which a can use and a spare nanoprop 5000
would these be adequate ?? and also what size tank should i be thinking of??

i already have a few tanks, so i am hoping it won't be a big tank :P but i am looking to house it longterm :)!!!!

thanks in advance

I'm sure you'll get some people that will say that clowns won't host a 'Caribbean anemone'...NOT true! Mine have hosted Tomatoes, Clarkii, Maroons, and 1 or 2 others...but no success with Occ. or Percs.

More interesting than that, is that the condys, not only can get very large, but can also change color...from pure white, to pink or purple tips, to pink or purple body/tentacles

wow, cool !!! :D so any recomendations on tank size for a single condy plus clown :O??? i'm hoping it isn't a minimum of 30 gallons to house a single anemone :P

Actually clownfish will not host a condylactis, and thats a fact. Although it is possible that a condylactis that will host clownfish in captivity. Condylactis are not natural hosts for clownfish.

...semantics? should I have said "some people that will say that clowns won't be hosted by a 'Caribbean anemone'

Yes, it is 100% possible...but not 100% of the time...
I have had condys in FOwC (fish only with condys) tanks since early 1970s...in reef tanks since ~1984...and they have hosted multiple types of clowns
Condylactis are not natural hosts for clownfish.

Could that be due to the lack of clownfish in the Caribbean?

Yes, that would make more sense. Exactly, clownfish are not found in the same ocean as condylactis anemones, therefore it's impossible for them to host clownfish in the wild.

Clowns can most definately host condys. My next door neighbor has one, the pet store i was at tonight had quite a few.

Just be forewarned, most clown's are not going to be hosted by a condy. I'm sure there are a few examples of my statement being wrong, but in general clowns and condy's don't go together.

hmm guess i'll have to pass on the condy then :(

any other suggestions of a single anemone with a clown in a setup as small as possible :P

i guess i could fit an anemone in my ten gallon non photo tank, but would hate to lose my rhizos to the sting of a moving anemone!
