I added a Hippo Tang after being QT for 3 weeks and since then ive lost 2 maroon clowns and possibly a 6 line wrasse who just got put into QT today. There are no signs of Ich and nothing else of that sort but they just keep dieing. My levels are

Amo: .5
Nitrate: 5-10
Nitirite: 1ppm
Temp 80
Salinity 1.024
Cal 450

So im figuring that the combination of ammonia and Nitrite is whats causing this but my hippo is un affected. Any ideas?

If your ammonia is at .5, that will kill fish very quickly. Nitrate is OK...

It looks like you didnt cycle your tank appropriately based on the numbers and what is going on.

how old is the tank
has anything died recently before the event above

but yes, ammonia poisoning is my guess....did the fish lose their color before going belly up

Well any ammonia means that your tank is not completely cycled (and/or) you have insufficient current biocapacity. However you have some really aggressive fish in a moderately sized tank and a hippo tang needs a much larger tank. I am assuming you are not quarantining?

+1 Sometimes you will also see redness around the gills if a fish dies of ammonia poisoning.
