Connecting rock

I was thinking about using this fiberglass rod to help bind the rocks together. Any thoughts?

How did you guys use them? One short piece to connect one rock to another and then another short piece to connect those rocks to the next? Or just one was long piece connecting the whole stack together?

I wasn't sure how to get multiple holes to line up and get a natural looking stack with a continuous rod.

Did you use any glue as well, or just the rod?
