considering nano 24 gal horse pipe tank

gasman059

The OG mad scientist
have a 200 mixed and been considering starting a nano about 20-30 gal for pipe and seahorse specifically , any suggestions

My suggestion is that you not mix horses and pipes, all sorts of bad things can happen in the world of disease.

Sorry :(

In most instances, the pipefish will be wild-caught and your seahorses will be captive bred (hopefully). What that means is any underlying pathogens the pipefish carry (even if they don't become sick from them) the seahorses would have no immunity to and they would likely succumb to the pathogen.

You would be taking the same risk mixing wild-caught seahorses with captive bred seahorses. And some evidence suggests the risk is also there when mixing different species or even the same species from different suppliers.

Hope that clarifies it a bit...

yes it does , wat are d chances of pipefish surviving in a mixed 200 reef , and wich ones would most likely thrive in an established tank?

There are quite a few people with different species of pipefish in their reef tanks. I recall PaulB has pipes in his reef tank...as well as a few other people. As seamonkey mentioned, dragon face pipes, I've heard, can be successfully added to a reef.
