I am going to be getting a larger tank later this year and want to get a larger skimmer. I have a Reeflo Orca 250 skimmer with pro extended collection cup and needle wheel. This is an external recirculating skimmer. I just replaced the Reeflo dart/snapper gold recirculating pump for $389 just a few weeks ago. Gauging interest to see if there is someone local looking for a monster skimmer that handles up to 700g tank. Skimmer is about 34" tall with a foot print of 12"x18" so so. I also have an AVAST head cleaner (a month old) for the skimmer that would be $50 extra. PM me and I will send you a photo of the current setup. The non-upgraded 250 model typically sells for on RC starting at$350 up to $600 for the pro depending on condition an age. Looking to sell for $575 given the brand new motor. Mike

Actually I plan on trying to use the avast for my new skimmer. I'll let you know if I change my mind. Thanks

What size tank are you going with and what new skimmer? I have one on my system 700 gallons total and 540 gallons being the display. I was thinkikng about trying a bubble blaster 10000 pump i have around but the plumbing on the skimmer is a weird size and I dont want to cut the skimmer up.

My display will only be about 425-450g but my total system will be over 700g. I actually had purchased a large Reef Dynamics XRS1000.4 used but the skimmer body was damaged by UPS. Still trying to figure out how I can repair. Are you keeping your Orca? I wasnt unhappy with the performance at all just wanted to try something different. I still have a 1 year old pump that needs a new seal that I need to fix. Not sure what I'm going to do with it.

Yes I think I am, sounds like your system is the same size as mine. How bad is the damage to your new skimmer? Acrylic is pretty easy to work with. I have a new needle wheel Im working on going to try it on the orca pump and see how it works. the current one pulls plenty of air just trying to get it chopped up better, But all in all I cant justify getting a new one yet when this one seems to keep up and work.

It is going to cost a fortune but Reef Dynamics is going to repair it. I just didn't want to change to do a repair myself given that I would use externally

I just put my new needle wheel on mine wow. I made the needle wheel myself it has 2x the teeth on it that the standard wheel has so 40 on the outside alone and they are square it draws about 100 scfm and when backed down to 90 makes some of the smallest bubbles in the neck I have ever seen on this skimmer. Ive got an octopus bubble blaster 10000 pump that I bought for another project im going to try it next week when I get the parts to plumb it. I think the skimmer body is big enough for my project its just making it more effective than the original design. Is the shipping company covering the cost of the fix on your new skimmer?

The seller had an employee ship the skimmer for him and they forgot about the insurance. So it is a total loss for the seller. I will end up paying less for the repair but I'm buying a 5th skimmer pump so I'm spending about the same. Your mod sounds interesting, I hope it works out for you.
