Considering upgrading 6000's to 6100's

I'm considering upgrading my 2x6000's to 6100's by upgrading the transformers. However, I notice a lot of mails about 6100's getting stuck and never see anything about 6000's getting stuck. Is there a chance that the jump in power dissipation from 6000 to 6100, 15W to 45W, is causing the unit to heat up more increasing the likelihood of getting stuck or failing? Or could it be related to added mechanical stress and wear?

Roger, have you had more failed 6100's or 6000's sent back? One model may be more popular than the other, so I'm, asking this question relative to number of units sold.

Thanks.

it follows that if the pump is pushing more water it would need to be cleaned more

ime as long as you periodically clean them with vinegar you will be fine, and from what i can tell of the customer service, any problems are dealt with promptly and to the customers satisfaction.

Like the picture of the pink bird's nest with resident sps crab. Got one just like it myself...my favorite coral...

The pump stuck due to poor maintainance. I owned all three (6000,6100,6200) and they all work great for me. Never have problem with pump not working or stuck. As long as you clean them out every 3-6 months. The book recommended 1 year.

OK, I'll go for the upgrade - I want to create more flow in my 140g tall to help keep detritus and the like off the rockwork and sandbed. I feel that the 2x6000's are a bit too tame. I'm using them in interval 2 just now 6 hr interval with 40% to 100% 2s pulse. This creates pleasing tidal effect, but feel that overall flow is too low. On the other hand I don't think I'll be able to pulse the 6100 up to 100% without creating a sandstorm, but anticipating being able to pulse it up to 80% or so...

Any opinions? My reef is mixed 29" tall 140g.

I have seen wavebox and 2x6100 in 120g 4x2x2 tank without any problem. You have got to mount the pump right or else you'll get sand storm even with the 6000
