Contemplating a SH tank

I have a 14 gal biocube I am thinking I'd like to do SH in. The Dwarf Sh. I know my tank is waaay too small for all the other ones. Is a 14 gal too big for a herd of the dwarves? Is it a good tank to set it up? Thanks for any info you can give me, as I am newer to the salt water world.

you would need alot of dwarfs for a 14 gal. You can get them pretty inexpensive at www.ccritters.com . you have to feed them decapped baby brine you know.

I don't know a lot about the biocube setups, but you'd also have to keep the tank temp under 74; make sure that there is only GENTLE flow, and make sure that all intakes and overflows are covered so that the dwarves don't get sucked in. You would be better off with a standard 10 gallon and a more basic, gentle filter. Take a look around the dwarf forum on seahorse.org and pick up a copy of Alisa Abbott's book.

That being said, I do not recommend dwarf seahorses as your first saltwater fish.

The person that i recieved mine from feed them chopped up mysis and live copepods.

They seem to be doing well with this.

Thanks for the info! I have had damsels and other creatures in the tank also. My tank is always under 74, so no problems there. I woudl like to get only a few Sh.. How many would be good for a 14g tank? Was looking to get only 10.

Do you still have damsels and other creatures in the tank? They will need to be taken out before you add dwarf seahorses. Also, you may possibly need to remove any corals and inverts you have.

I have been reading more into this. and I talked to my fish ppl here and noone sells brine shrimp anymore. So no go for the dwarves. My tank isn't big enough for the other kinds, so no Sh for me. That just means I an have a puffer!

Brine are one of the easiest and simplest things to hatch, grow, and culture youself. Pretty much add water, food, and wait. Yes theres alot more to it than just that, but almost that easy.
