"Control Aiptasia" Product

An employee at my LFS recommended I try "Control Aiptasia" from blue life usa. They have a website but it is "under construction".

I bought a bottle and now I'm somehow not anxious to use it. I can't find any references to it on the web so I don't even have anecdotal evidence of its reefsafeness nor its effectiveness. Also, I don't know what's in it so I'm suspicious.

Anyone used it or heard of it?

p.s. had aiptasia in my reef for years and they aren't a plague... in fact they are at lower numbers than they used to be but it would be nice to get rid of the ugly little b---tards.

I heard good things about Joe juice which is kalkwasser with some other ingredent or just use kalkwasser or pickling lime. I squirt two the other day and it disinergrated.

I use a concentrated kalkwasser mix as well. I get good results from it. I've heard Joe's Juice works well, a little more expensive the kalk.

I haven't heard about your product though. If you use it in small amounts, it should be fine.

To finally eliminate my aptasia problem, I bought a filefish. It nipped at some of my softies at first (button polips and zoas) but doesn't touch the sps. I've been aptasia free since then.

According to the speaker at the meeting, Joe's Juice is kalkwasser and non-iodized salt... (they applied for a patent, which might have been a bad move, since the ingredients are now public knowledge ... )

I think you were lucky with a filefish. I won't be going that route.

I've never had luck with any method... even when they go black and shrivel up, they come back.... I take that back. I have a litte blow-torch for Creme-brulees and aiptasia sizzling... works like a treat. Also, I've entombed a couple of them that were in particularly bad places using epoxy; not a great choice but a handy method to get rid of ONE aiptasia that really has to go.

Try feeding less and getting some better filtration. Without anything to eat, they are easy to control.

never used 'control aiptasia' but used joes juice, then found that kalkwasser or vinegar injected with a syringe worked great. just take the syringe, stick into mouth of the aiptasia then inject, then keep poking and injecting. they disintigrate and don't seem to come back for me..

though more natural way would be bergia nudibranchs.. at the BAR meeting frank was swearing by them for pest control..

Try squirting the aiptasia with concentrated B-Ionic part 1... careful not to get it on other inverts or it'll cause burn spots.
works for me.. =)

What worked really well for me are peppermint shrimps, though some people complain that they might nip at other things. I never observed that (well, not yet!) And depending on what actual "aiptasia" you have, they might not touch it at all...

but consider that one 20ml bottle of Joe's Juice costs the same as a peppermint shrimp...

The problem with Bergias is ... where do you get them? I don't know anyone who sells them! Also, once they run out of aiptasia, they'll starve, won't they?

Also, aside from the Joe's Juice applicator...where do you find syringes other than the local drug dealer?

you can pick up syringes at your local drug store too. I've used vinegar in insulin syringes but htey are too fine for kalk paste. If you don't need the needle 5ml oral syringes are easy to come by either at the drugstore or on ebay.

I just tried that product new from "Blue" and I have nothing but good things to say! Works really well, similar to Joe's.
