Ok, things are getting a bit out of control here at 180reefer's tank...
The dilemma here is dropping PH overnight - significantly (IMO). The tank goes from 8.1 - 8.19 during the day, to 7.6 at night. This has been going on for some time now, and really does not seem to be affecting the corals or my fish for that matter, but from what I read - that seems a bit excessive?
I have a 180 bowfront, with approx a fairly large sump/refuge (it is 18x18x48) I have the center of it lit with a 2x65w PC fixture with 67k bulbs for growing macro - the light is on opposite the display lighting.
Equip; I am running a Korallin 3002 CA reactor, a custom Kalk stirrer (very large, holds 4 gallons) I am dosing Kalk per PH on the display via AC3, with a 50ml/hr dosing pump after the Kalk stirs, then sits for 20min.
It has been a learning curve with the stirrer, but I do keep it quite full of Kalk+
If I let it run too long, it is putting too much water in the tank to compensate for evaporation.
The stirrer did not come with any directions, just a big canister with a magnetic stir bar. I keep it saturated so much that I have a lot sitting on the bottom not in solution to make sure there is enough in there.
The skimmer is out in the garage (fresh air) it is a Deltec AP702, I have the CA reactor, the Kalk, and the Nitrate reactor dumping into a bubble diffuser in the sump before the Refuge to help with oxygenation...
what am I missing here?
I live in SW Florida, so the ac is on most of the time, but even when I have windows open, still getting the drop..
CA = 420 (consistently)
ALK = 9
Ph = 8.19 - 7.6
No3 = 0 - 0.1
Po4 = 0
I use Tropic Marin Bio-Actif salt
Thanks for the help!
