I know what live aquaria says but I have heard that they an go into a four foot tank

I would not do it and I am a fan of the fish.

The tank size thread has them listed. The stats for tank size matches liveaquaria's suggestion. Try wouldn't say they need a tank that big if they could fit in a four foot tank. As far as temperament goes they are peaceful, one of the most if not the most peaceful tang. I have heard of them being easily bullied by other tangs.

I have heard about them getting bullied/killed instead of doing the bullying/killing. I am not a big fan of them so I would not get one. As far as tank size I would think they could they are about the same size as mimic tangs.

Thanks guys I'm still leaning toward mimic bc they are supposed to be very active

mine is no bully but don't get bullied by other tangs either although i have zero acanthurus in the tank but i do have a huge sailfin and they are similar in appearance but no issues.

tank is 7 x 2 x 2

I have a mimic and while he is a fairly good citizen, he will take no crap. It is obvious that he runs the tank and goes where he wants and sleeps where he wants. Although he's the only acanthurus(or tang of any type) in the tank.

Unfortunately, he's also the only one with ich that I can see...
