If you read any of mesocosm's posts on the "z" forum, you'll see that he is trying to apply science to the hobby of reefkeeping. It is usually advanced stuff and draws on scientific journal articles to advance the hobby. He also draws on hobbyist literature and opinion, but is usually very clear about differentiating between "opinion" and "scientific fact". I find his threads extremely informative.
