Cool New Pumps

I would question the build quality of these, in comparison to the Tunzes. In this case, I really do think you get what you pay for in terms of long term reliability. Of course, that is just my GUESS.

that being said with TAMM's reputation its a wonder people keep buying seio's. Wait, I know why they do, cause they are cheap. As I do agree with you Paul, there is always a market for the frugal spenders. And this might be where they are focusing...

I gotta add a point about the SEIOs, though. Until the release of the Nano Streams and these new Hydors, there was nothing really comparable to the SEIOs, in their lower flow range. Now with the NS and Hydors, the SEIOs have some real competition.

I know when I bought some of my SEIO 620s and an 820 in the past, I would DEFINITELY had paid a little more for a NS. Of course, there are other reasons as well...... :)

For the record, though, I have been using the SEIOs for going on a year and have NEVER had a problem with SEIOs. I think some of the issues reported on them are earlier production models.

I got a seio 620 and it didn't last 2 months before the ceramic shaft broke. Thought I would try another and got an 820 and it wouldn't even come on unless you thumped it. Now it won't work at all. I wouldn't try another one that's why I am looking for some tunze stuff.

any item in the world that's mass produced on an assembly line is bound to have problems like that, and when you factor in using cheaper parts to save themselves money, it only gets worse. You definatly get what you pay for, but when the good stuff costs as much as they do, then buying a couple "lesser grade" items starts to look much better. As for myself, I think I'm just going to mod a couple MJ's versus spending money on a brand new item that the fish people of the world havn't tested for me yet.

Well, fortunately Maxijets have such a great reputation (and are so cheap (when bought online)) that you don't have much to worry with them....

I may try these Hydor pumps. I've never had a problem with Hydor products, never really read any bad reviews of their product either. The way I see it, they're breaking into the world of small prop pumps and if they are half way decent, that will be good for the prop pump market. I can get two of the of 850 gph models for the price of a 6025.

If I get them, I'll be sure to post updates.

Don't get me wrong - I am glad they are getting into this market. Competition will bring competitor prices down and also encourage competitors to improve products, etc. Also, I know that spending half the price on something (even at a possible lower quality) is sometimes necessary.

Heck, I am running 4 SEIOs total in my 2 medium sized tanks......

sorta like me running a seaclone on my 55 uh? granted I don't think the competitors are too worried on that one.

Just learned the release in the US for these pumps has been delayed until mid January and the pricing is subject to change...lol...according to an email from a TFO rep I just received.
