so i got some mushrooms at the swap a while back from largejohn. i didnt glue the rock they came on to any of my other rockwork, it was just sort of sitting on some top of some other stuff. a few days ago i noticed it had gotten knocked off by a crab or something and was lying in the bottom of the tank. i left it sit there cause i didnt really feel like getting all wet and it sat for a couple days. i put it back in its normal spot and didnt really think anything of it, everything looked pretty copastetic. yesterday i was feeding and i noticed there was a mushroom growing at the base of the rock, where the frag had fallen. upon further inspection, i found three new polyps just sort of doing their own thing all by themselves. fn sweet!

It's good that they reproduced at the bottom of the tank instead of at the top. If they start at the top, they will ooze down on anything below them. If they start at the bottom, it takes a lot longer for them to work their way up. At least that's my experience. After several years of mushrooms reproducing, mine got so out of control that I was setting entire rocks filled with them outside in the sun to dry out. There were hundreds.

For whatever it is worth, if you think they split quickly, from MY experience, the rust/red ones split/reproduce even faster than blues and purples...

That's interesting. hmmm
My experience is the complete opposite. I wish my red ones would reproduce, but I think I've had only about 3 or 4 for several years while the blues/purples and green stripes took over everything.

John, it's the aura of "reef-force-one" that is negatively affecting your reds. You need a POS jeep cherokee in front of your house instead of it - then your reds will flourish - lemme know when you wanna trade! :smokin:

Really though, my reds would cover a rock and then detaching themselves from the rock. Then, they would use their umbrella shape to float around to a new crevice/home - sit there a few hours - and BAM they had a new home... The reds - sheesh! They were almost as much of a hassle to trim as my colt!
