Whats your room temperature at? Turn the A/C on. I keep my house at 78 and have two fan in blowing in the hood of my 12g and it stay at 79 all day.
Otherwise, get a chiller. I have brand new Ice probe w/ controller for sale if your interested.

allright well i dont have anything in it right now so there isnt too much to worry about at the moment. im just making sure for when i get my live sand and live rock and corals.

as most of us have yet to see them torn apart it might be difficult to give a lot of advice on but you might try pulling the splash guard and checking how the fans and venting are.

i have the 14 gallon also, ure right the fans don't really cool it, but 82.2 is a great temp for a natural reef, assuming you will lose a degree at night at most, most people run an overly cool tank more like pool water in the states, then a sun baked reef in indonesia

don't let it get much higher, is there a heater installed? Fan will help but watch evaporation. It will amaze you how much fresh distilled water you are adding. Best bet: a chiller. I had the small ICU installed on all my nano's by nanocustom. Works to keep tank at an even 78 degrees.

How are the fans set up?
are they have blocked off like the Aquapod vents?
are they trying to suck the air out of the hood instead of the cooler room air in?

If either of you happens to decide to do a break down of the hood and rear chambers i know that i for one would be grateful and most likely a bunch more.
Would love to see the guts of the hood for starters.
