Copeods

Hi

I've got 1000s of copeods on my glass and 100s floating about in the water. Does anyone lnow the best way to get rid. They are making my water look dirty.

I'm going to guess your tank is newer, and it's just a population spike it'll pass. lacking any details at all about your system that's the best I can do.

This happened to me when my tank was just started as well, now that I am a couple of months in (and have added some fish), I cannot seem to find any. I don't see them on the glass anymore, and careful inspection of the rocks at night I still cannot seem to find any.

Is the decline of the copepod population an indicator of anything?

Get a fish that consumes them..
Use a filter sock or other mechanical filtration..

I'm betting though that you aren't seeing pods.. Its rare to have 100s as you say floating in the water.. They tend to stick to surfaces and absolutely will not make your water look "dirty" as you say..

predation, or lack of food supply for them. They are tiny, trust me you still have them. I culture a couple varieties currently, they are so tiny unless they are crawling all over your tank glass, you won't really see them. Especially not on your rocks.

Their definitely copeods coppers and I see them floating about untill until they land on the glass. That's how I know it's them floating about. I've got filter wool in so hopefully they will go on their own.

OK, but why do you want them to go? They are good to have in the tank. Fish will eat them, they will eat detritus.

Mandarin Goby

Mandarin Goby

I had the same "œIssue" I had so many the water looked dirty with so many being tossed around so I pulled the gun and got a mandarin...gorgeous fish but within 2 or 3 weeks he cleared the whole tank.. now I'm fighting to get my copod count up in my tank, I've tried chaeto and seeding the tank with life pods from the store but the mandarin is a killing machine(kind of, he seems to be losing weight)

I would definitely wait if your tank is fairly new, because as some people have already said its new tank symptom and won't always be like this.

just an observation, but have you ever seen a reel reef? been snorkeling? that's a good thing. life in our tanks is good your water doensn't look dirty it looks full of life. it will pass but I would love it if I had that much free food flitting around my tank.

Reel reefs have algae which tangs feed on as well, but most in the hobby try to get rid of it.

thats true most do, I try and get it to grow where I want it instead. like my fuge and sump, a pod population burst is likely to fade pretty quickly in almost any tank.
