copepods & phytoplankton

has anyone had any experience with adding copepods or phytoplankton to their reef aquarium? I read where copepods need the phytoplankton and they can both can benefit corals.

i got a bottle of copods from UA a few months back and dump them into my sump where i grow chaeto, now they multiply like roaches

+1 This is the same thing I do, I usually do it once a year.

so you never had to dose phytoplankton to feed the copepods or anything? Dont the copepods eventually die off because they run out of food source

They are scavengers. They eat Detrius and any leftovers. I shoot some frozen food in my refugium every once in while during feedings. Keeps my pods and mini bristle stars happy.

Nope I never feed mine everything.

So, if I am understanding this correctly, you just get the live pods and dump them in your sump and they get auto fed to your tank via the return pump? No feeding whatsoever?
