I just acquired a Mandarin fish and am concerned that I don't have enough copepods in my system for him. Does anyone have some extra to spare?

copepods

copepods

please dont take this the wrong way but i would do the fish a favor and find him a temp home that can feed him long term while you get a refug. going and your pod population up. goodluck

I order a batch of a couple thousand copepods but in the meantime I just wanted to see if someone would have some extra that they can share. This Mandarin will eat Mysis so I'm not starving him, though I know that they don't provide the nutritional value that the copepods do.

This mandarin is basically a rescue. The person who had him put him a tank with a rather large watchman goby that kept pcking on him.

If he eats mysis, I wouldnt worry about it. Also, your tank should have enough pods to last you til your order gets there. I think it would be pretty tough for someone to be able to round up enough to make it worth your while

Cool. Thanks Adam.

now howd you get him to eat mysis ...i tried one and it wouldnt touch that stuff...

i have plenty of cheato...and ive seen quite a few pods...but how do you go about catching those...to give them to someone else?

Alex,

The previous owner had him eating mysis. Though some mandarins will eat them it is not a good idea to feed mysis to them exclusively as it doesn't provide the nutrition the copepods do.

I never heard that about mysis, the non-nutrition part, I only ever read that about brine shrimp that aren't hufa enriched

My Mandarin Goby eats mysis flake and pellets. It seems the longer you have them the more they adjust to differnt foods, but it's good to wait for your tank to mature for about a year so the copepods have time to astablish.
