Copper and live rock re-using

Another Day In Paradise
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I had a couple of nice pieces of live rock(50lbs) that were in a tank I treated with copper. I took the rock out and let it sit in the sun for a couple weeks.Florida sun. Then I stuck it in a brute can and filled it with salt water. Its been in there a couple of weeks.I cant measure any copper in the water. Do you think it would hurt to add to one of my other tanks?I wonder if coraline would ever grow on it?

Its going in a fish only tank.I would like coraline to grow on it though.I might dip it in muratic acid for day or so.

Any success stories?

Dipping in vinegar might help, but I wouldn't risk it. What if the copper leached and other live rocks got contaminated?

I wouldn't try it. Rocks are too porous and the channels go deep in some cases. I suppose if you are sure you will never let the rock go into a tank with inverts and you really feel you want to do it as long as it's fish only.......

You probably won't read any copper because the LR absorbed it. Thats why you don't use it in QT tanks because it messes up keeping consistent levels. If you went through all that trouble you might as well buy some dead rock and be patient.

The whole point is, I like this rock. Nothing to do with patients.I have the rest of my life. :) Muriatic acid seems to have done the trick. I will have to take it to my lab and have it analyzed.
