Can copper kill macroalgae? Caulaerpa specifically. Was going to put some in a buddy's predator tank, but he has dosed with copper in there. Thanks!

Caulerpa prolifera was fine in a quarantine tank I had running that was dosed with the typical copper treatment for Ick. I did not keep the algae in there for long term though, about two weeks. It grew and looked healthy during this time.

As Sarah pointed out it is likely to be safe. If it was dosed awhile ago and water changes have been performed since then the risk would be even less. Copper is found in naturaly in seawater in very low trace amounts and is even necessary for some biological processes.

i have caulerpa in my Quarantine tank and it has survived copper and anti parasite medications. it grows slow cuz of the crappy lights but otherwise does fine. my new fairy wrasse loves to sleep in it.
