Copper and water changes

Guys have my buddies entire tank basically in a 55 gallon stock to bare bottom with power head and heater. Hiw offer should he be doing water changes with 8 med small fish. Two tangs, 3 dwarf angels and 3 clowns.

Yes. Test the existing water in the tank and make up water change water to the same copper concentration.

Yes but how often. Right now I do. It every other day at 40% water changed

With no bio filtration I want to ensure ammonia doesn't build up.

That sounds pretty good. With copper, you can not use an ammonia neutralizer so frequent water changes are mandatory, especially with a fairly heavy bioload.
