I have lost 2...count um...2 copper banded butterflys in the last 48 hrs. I talked to Chad at Gateway, and we came to the conclusion that my 3 hr. acclamation was to long,so i bought another one. This one i did a 1 hr. acclamation, and when it went in the tank, it started swimming and was EATING. Today i get home from work and its D.O.A. I have checked my water, all tests were good. Chad was treating the water the fish was in with an anti stress. All my other fish are fine, and this is the first time iv ever lost a fish in thr first 24 hrs. So is it something im im not testing for in the water? or am i just destined to fail with a copper butterfly?? Any ideas??..Thanks

Sorry for your loss. I had the same thing happen with two bangai cardinals - both didn't last 24 hours. I haven't had trouble with any other fish.

Maybe you just had two bad fish.

Copperbanded butterfly are generally hard to acclimate. Your tank is on the small side for large fish like tangs and butterflys so there may be fish or two being aggressive to the newcomer. That stress might cause the fish to die.

i hear thats a tough fish.
sometimes stress is to much!
i've had a fish die on the way home before.
i think sometimes there isn't anything we did wrong.

I know that its not funny, but I cant help laughing every time I read this.

The best fish buying "D'OH!!!" I've seen is when the lady at Clayton Pet was telling some folks how nice a particular fish looked and that she was making sure to net that particular one for them to take home. She bagged it and reached to grab a bag for them to take it home in and when she stood up....the fish in the bag was dead! Watched it with my own eyes. Heart attack I guess.
